ComSkills e-Learning Services for the Future of Work
Lockdowns, remote working, AI, and the rapid adoption of tech has accelerated the arrival of the future of work
40% of your employees will require reskilling
According to the “Future of Work” report by the World Economic Forum, companies estimate that around 40% of workers will require reskilling, with 94% of the companies saying that they expect employees to pick up new skills on the job.
The report highlights that skills gaps will continue to be high as in-demand skills across jobs change.
The top skills that employers see as rising in prominence include critical thinking and analysis, data-led decision-making, problem-solving, and self-management skills such as active learning, active listening, using emotional intelligence and flexibility.
These required skillsets for the future of work have also been mirrored by research from McKinsey.
The future of work is here for employees
84% of employers are adopting remote working, automating work processes and migrating to cloud services
The use of e-learning and online training is rapidly increasing
Due to the adoption of remote working, the use of e-learning and online training is rapidly increasing. Individuals are learning online through their own initiative and also from their employer providing online learning opportunities. Unfortunately, many online courses are often generic video lectures that lack relevance for many organisations.
The demand for client-specific and customised e-learning and online training is increasing.
For those employees set to remain in their roles, the share of core skills that will change in the next five years is estimated to be 40%.
In today’s uncertain labour market, and with the emergence of the “Great Resignation”, coupled with an ageing workforce, employers should be strengthening employee retention and recruitment, The majority of employers recognise the value of human capital investment and expect to offer reskilling and upskilling to 70% of their employees by 2025.
- The Gartner HR Budget and Staffing Survey published in March 2021 shows 80% of organisations are planning to reduce face-to-face training and pivot their learning offerings to a more virtual framework.
- The CBI “The Revolution of Work” report published in July 2021 shows 93% of UK firms plan to adopt hybrid working models, with only 5% of UK businesses surveyed expecting to work entirely from an office.
- The Microsoft HR Decision Makers report published in December 2021 shows over 50% of UK workers would resign if hybrid working was removed or not available.
- The Tavistock Institute‘s Flexible Working for Older Workers report published in December 2021 highlighted one in four of the UK’s population will soon be over 65.
- The Office of National Statistics (ONS) Is hybrid working here to stay survey published in May 2022 shows UK hybrid working has risen from 13% in early February 2022 to 24% in May 2022.
The key takeaways from these reports and related research are:
- The future of work is hybrid
- The future of training is a blended model that combines e-learning (30%), webinar (50%) and face-to-face (20%)
- The 30% for e-learning is largely made up of 10-minute microlearning video content

Creating video e-learning (microlearning) training is innovative and forward-thinking. The leading Tech analyst Dion Hinchcliffe recently said:
“Video has also become a major player in enabling what is known as ‘microlearning ‘, often via short clips that can be created and shared in learning communities, and then discussed. Consuming these videos on mobile devices on-demand, when needed, is another notable trend.
The early numbers from social learning make interesting reading. Initial studies have shown that there’s as much as a 75:1 return-on-investment (ROI) ratio for the approach compared to traditional web-based education.
As a result of such insights, this year fully 73 per cent of organisations are planning on increasing their investments in social learning.”
The numbers speak for themselves…
